Last summer we celebrated different national days mostly involving food so this year I thought it would be fun to read
Around the World in Eighty Days by Jules Verne with the girls and try foods from each of the countries Phileas Fogg visited. Here is what our international food travels brought:
England where Phileas Fogg started and ended his journey
| Spotted Dick |
France
| Dessert Crepes |
| Beignets (these made way more than I anticipated) |
Italy
| Gnocchi with pesto |
Egypt
India
| Gajar ka halwa (carrot pudding) |
China
| Almond Flavor Gelatin Dessert with fruit cocktail |
Japan
| Terriyaki Chicken Bowl |
| Castella (Japanese sponge cake) |
It was quite the culinary adventure. We liked most of the food items but won't be putting everything into our dinner or dessert rotation. My favorite is a toss-up between the savory crepes from France or the gnocchi and pesto from Italy. Dessert wise Umm Ali won the prize for most liked.
