Rockets, Dress-up, and More!

I thought Eric would post some pictures from our adventures this past Saturday but he hasn't so I will. A few weeks ago, Eric took the scouts out and launched model rockets on base at WPAFB. He was very worried the base police would arrest him or kick the boys out for trespassing but nothing like that happened and they had a great time launching the rockets. Since he had a couple engines left over, Eric decided we should go as a family to launch rockets. We went over to the local park and Elizabeth helped push the button to launch.

Here's Elizabeth showing one of the spent engines. Careful, it's still hot!

We successfully launched the rocket three times but only recovered it twice. The last time the parachute must have burned up because we saw it falling out of the sky and breaking up before landing in a mass of trees so we left it there. I'm sure we'll launch rockets again although I still think it's more of a guy thing along with planes, trains, and automobiles.

Saturday evening we went to a birthday party at the bowling alley and both girls actually liked bowling for a few frames at least. They needed help getting the ball down the lane of course and I must say that I really like bumper lanes as it helps my own score out.

Rachel just had to hold the ball while we waited our turn.

Here are some pictures of the girls dressing up. Rachel loves to accessorize with sunglasses, shoes, and necklaces. Elizabeth put on all her "pretties" and I was just thankful she didn't twist her ankle in her dress-up shoes.

As for Eric and myself, Eric bought a new road bike that I'm sure he'll post about later. I did something so unlike me and became a personal shopper for Shade Clothing. I'll give selling modest shirts that I like to wear a go and see what happens.

Beating the Heat

It's only the middle of June but it feels like August here in Ohio. We are somewhat officially in a drought with hardly any rain in the area. So what have we done to beat the heat? I've finally taken advantage of the county community pool and turned little Rachel and Elizabeth into water lovers. Rachel was a little hesitant at first as she didn't like the pool when we camped at Jellystone but loves it now. I tried a full ponytail on her in this picture and she kind of looks like Elizabeth.

Today we also went to Young's Jersey Dairy. It's amazing how everyone used to be a farmer not so very long ago but now it's recreational to go feed goats and see cows and of course eat very yummy ice cream to cool down.

The goats seemed to be fighting like they were never fed even though there were a lot of kids there feeding them and Rachel was lucky enough to get two on her hand.

This is really a laughing pose, she has no fear of the animals that in her words "like people." She loves to say an animal name and if they like or don't like people. The ones that don't like people eat or attack us.

Our two little cuties riding the cow.

I wanted to add a note about my garden experience this year. Sorry I don't have a picture and I don't know if I want to take one since things are starting to die in the heat. Our strawberries came up for about two weeks in droves and they were yummy. Elizabeth was my official strawberry picker helper and knows now how red they have to be. The other big hit of the season were my sugar snap peas. I built a trellis for them to climb out of PVC pipe and even my vegetable picky husband likes them. I also liked the taste of my fresh broccoli which did well. Most things I planted were "cool" weather plants so they're starting to die off in this "unseasonable" heat that we keep having and now we'll hopefully get zucchini in abundance to make yummy bread.
