Take me out to the Ball Game 2

Even though the Rockies aren't in series playoff contention anymore, we still went to their game against the Dodgers Monday night, hey it was free. You could say our allegiance flip-flopped to whoever won the game (Dodgers in this case). Since we grew up in the LA area and went to many a Mormon night for the Dodgers (famous for Dodger dogs) and now our home team is the Rockies it didn't really matter who won. I must say, baseball is a pretty boring game. It's more fun to people watch at the games than watch a bunch of guys standing around waiting for someone to hit the ball. It's also a good place to teach your daughter about beer and how it's bad and addictive.

For the girls, baseball games are all about the cotton candy.

Why so serious?

Guess who found my lipstick?

A change in seasons brings. . .

A new look for Elizabeth

A metamorphosized Evelyn

And beautiful scenery in the mountains

Eric rode his new baby (CAAD 9) from Bergen Pass to Echo Lake and we met him at the top to take a stroll around the lake. I love Fall!

Evelyn's 2!

Can it really be? My baby turned 2 yesterday! She had her 2 year checkup today and was 25 lbs and 33 1/4 in. so still on the shorter end but way cute.
Can you believe she went from this. . .
To this. . .
In a blink of an eye?

So what did we do on her special day you might ask? She had a carriage ride to the park.
Played in the sand at the reservoir.

And had a bunch of strangers from Eric's work sing Happy Birthday to her followed quickly by devouring frosting from cake.
And of course, opened presents.

A few of the things we just love about this girl.
  • Bright blue eyes.
  • Huge smile and laugh.
  • Love of shoes. She won't keep her own on but insists on wearing everyone elses.
  • Following in the footsteps of her big sister Rachel, Evelyn loves to accessorize and one of her few words is necklace.
  • Loves to color, especially her hands and legs.
  • Excitement at seeing her big sisters.
We love you Evelyn!

Oh what do you do in the Summertime?

Fall is sneaking up on us but weather wise, it definitely still feels like summer. So what have we been up to?
I have one more race to go for the year but a few weeks ago I did a 10K and got first in my age group, one nice thing about turning 30 this year.
Elizabeth lost her first front top tooth
We were bored last Friday and went hiking (aka walking with whining at the end) in Castlewood Canyon. Don't worry, they didn't fall in :)

Proof that Melissa is with us and we love her!
Soccer! I must say I have mixed feelings about soccer. First, I didn't realize it would take up our weeknights and Saturdays like it does. I don't know why I was that naive when I signed them up because I played for 13 years as a child and soccer was life for awhile. I guess I didn't realize the Saturday thing because in the last league we played games during the week. Anyway, I'm coaching Rachel's team and Elizabeth's on her own team without me as a coach but I'm a horrible sideline parent. We'll see how the season advances but right now Elizabeth doesn't really like it and Rachel is tired quickly but seems more engaged in the game than her sister. I would like to have daughters in soccer but I miss my Saturdays.

What to do on a holiday weekend night

The girls have really wanted to get outdoors again and since we couldn't plan a camping trip this weekend, they camped out on our deck last night. I slept comfortably in my bed thank you very much but it was a hit for Elizabeth and Rachel. Rachel--"Sleeping outside is so much better than inside. The stars are much prettier!" Elizabeth--"Good" (understatement supreme).
The night was even complete with bugs like this praying mantis.

Dinosaur Fieldtrip

We've been to the Denver Nature & Science Museum many times but never on an official fieldtrip. Today was Rachel's first preschool fieldtrip to see the dinosaurs and she loved it. For three weeks, her class learned about triceratops, T-Rex, diplodocus, and many other dinosaurs and then they got to see real bones in the museum. Here's to chaperoning many more trips.

Since this is a Rachel post, I have to post this picture. It's true, Mormons do have horns!
